These are challenging times, but Sunderland is facing the future with optimism and confidence. Riverside Sunderland will transform a 32-hectare site in the heart of the city into a dynamic, carbon-neutral urban quarter.
The key features of the Riverside Sunderland masterplan reflect our ambitious vision.
1,000 new energy efficient homes in four distinctive neighbourhoods, doubling the city centre population and creating a vibrant new community
A new central business district with 1 million square feet of modern office space, complemented by space for small businesses and start-ups

Exciting proposals to build the Culture House – a new city library and a hub for creativity, making and learning – on a site in Keel Square
Celebrating the landscape by creating beautiful parks and open spaces, with new river crossings for walkers and cyclists
A number of key projects are already under way:
The stunning new City Hall is taking shape, and will open in late 2021
The Auditorium, a 450-seat performing arts venue in the Fire Station complex, will also open in 2021

Legal & General have submitted plans for two new flagship office buildings, part of their £100m investment in Riverside Sunderland
